Pip Macken

Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Pip offers a relational approach to therapy, where children, teenagers and adults can explore life’s challenges without fear of judgement.

Her lived experiences inform the empathy and warmth she brings to her work, from raising her own neurodivergent child and teaching neurodivergent learners to navigating aging parents, the empty nest, as well as unexpected loss and grief.

Alongside psychotherapy, Pip offers therapeutic learning support with more than 10 years’ experience supporting children, teens and young people, including neurodivergent, gifted and twice-exceptional learners, and those experiencing school avoidance or anxiety. Her aim is to help young people feel safe, understood and capable, so they can reconnect with their curiosity and confidence.

As both a psychotherapist and writer, Pip has a passion for supporting children and adolescents through play therapy, drawing on stories, creativity and imagination to help young people navigate anxiety, overwhelming emotions, as well as the unique challenges that can accompany neurodivergence. Pip is LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcomes people of all identities, backgrounds and family structures.

Pip also works with women navigating the changing seasons of life. When children need them differently, parents begin to age and relationships change, many women find themselves asking, Who am I now? Pip offers a compassionate space to explore these transitions, helping women reconnect with themselves.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, Pip spent more than two decades as a writer and communications professional. As an author and storyteller, she loves using metaphor and narrative to help clients explore difficult emotions and discover new ways of understanding themselves.

Pip is a Master’s-qualified psychotherapist and counsellor and a registered member of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia). She has completed training in Internal Family Systems, Childhood Grief and Loss, and Play Therapy.

Pip reserves a third of her practice for students and low-income persons who may be eligible for a sliding scale. To discuss how Pip can support you, please email pip@pipmacken.com or call 0412 263 919.
